How much does a Tesla Powerwall cost?
Charge up your knowledge of all the Tesla Powerwall costs
Highlights
- Each battery costs $11,500, including installation, from Tesla. This figure can increase to $15,000 from other vendors, like Sunrun. Buying multiple batteries costs less per unit.
- As of 2022, you can’t buy Tesla Powerwalls as individual solar batteries.
You can harness the power of the sun, save on energy costs, and reduce your home’s carbon footprint with a solar battery. An individual Tesla Powerwall unit costs $11,500, including installation, from Tesla. One important thing to remember, however, is that, as of 2022, Tesla no longer sell Powerwalls individually, but only as part of a complete Tesla solar system. Unfortunately, due to the amount of demand in the marketplace we have seen customers wait up to a year for their Tesla Powerwall installation.
Average cost of a Tesla Powerwall
Tesla Powerwalls cost $11,500 per unit, including a $1,500 Solar and Powerwall discount. This price includes installation, the battery itself, and the gateway. As part of your system purchase, you may also be entitled to additional local governmental incentives, such as tax rebates, to further reduce the cost of your Powerwall. This is heavily dependent upon your location. One thing to be aware of is Tesla is known to add additional fees (in our industry called adders), after the deposit payment has been received and site audit has been completed. This bait and switch approach is frowned upon by BCSC.
Total price of a Tesla Powerwall Setup
The true costs of a Tesla Powerwall setup are substantially higher than the cost of the batteries and their installation alone. That’s because, as of 2022, Tesla Powerwalls are only available to purchase as part of a Tesla solar system. This significantly increases cost, whether you opt for a panel system or a solar roof system.
Panel System
A small Tesla solar panel system with 7.0 kW panels and one Powerwall will set you back $30,400 before incentives and rebates. After discounts have been applied, you can expect to pay $21,280 or less, depending on your location.
For a larger home where energy use is higher or you want more power backup or off-grid capabilities, you can purchase a Tesla solar system with 19.20kW panels and four Powerwalls. This will set you back $97,840 before discounts and, depending on your location, $68,488 or less after those rebates and incentives are applied.
Potential Savings of a Tesla Powerwall
Where you live determines how much you can save. For example, in California, you’d be likely to receive a discount of up to $2,000 per Powerwall as part of the Self Generation Incentive Program, or SGIP (if still available). If you live in other states, however, you may not be so lucky, so make sure you discuss these local incentives with your BCSC sales consultant, who will know all there is to know about solar installation incentives in your area.
